Understanding Boat Title Documents

Why You Should Always Ask for the Originals

Real Stories from Boat Buyers

1. Motorboat – Missing Documents

2. Widebeam Boat – Hidden Fraud

3. Sports Boat – Outstanding Finance

Another buyer noticed Promarine Finance listed on the paperwork and contacted us before completing the sale. It turned out there was still outstanding finance on the boat — which was settled correctly before purchase.

💡 Lesson: If a lender’s name appears on any paperwork, always contact them directly to confirm the status of the loan.

Thinking of Financing Your Next Boat?

SIBS 2025

Southampton Boat Show is done for another year – what did we make of it?

Our UK show has a particularly soft spot for us because we started trading at the boatshow in 2010 – we regularly see our very first customer every year and 2025 was no exception.

15 years trading, 8 boatshows, consistent regular growth and financial resources to meet market expectations puts Promarine Finance in a unique and valuable position to help customers and boat dealers alike.

We felt SIBS was busier and had more positive vibes than 2024. We know some exhibitors felt differently but our visitor numbers were up on last year and those walking past our stand seemed more focussed on boats.

The event passed quickly and we had a lot of fun throughout the show and didn’t get too wet whilst getting blown away only once.

Thanks to our team of Julie, Aaron, Oscar and Stuart at the show and our office team of Ross, Kath, Pauline and Liza for keeping us on track.

Thank you to all our customers and dealers and partners who stopped by our stand and sharing their hospitality with us.

We look forward to SIBS 2026 and working with everone in the year ahead.

And if we can be of any help please get in touch.

Promarine Finance relaunches and expands marine finance options for Summer 2025

Summer is finally here and at Promarine Finance, we are launching more than just boats!

For 2025 we have decided to relaunch some of our existing offers, and set course to explore new waters too. Designed to support boat buyers, existing boat owners, boat sales companies, and marine companies offering refits, new engines, and upgrades, making finance easier and more accessible.

New boat finance: Scheduled stage payments

Our new boat finance offering has been streamlined to align better with the needs of boatbuilders and buyers. Stage payment financing is now easier to access and more flexible, ensuring funds are released in line with the build schedule. Whether you’re having a custom narrowboat built, or ordering your next sailing yacht with lots of extras, we can help finance the journey from keel to commissioning.

Wanting to upgrade the build spec beyond your original budget? We also offer low loan-to-value (LTV) top-up loans, ideal for adding those optional extras that make all the difference, like generators and solar installations, engine upgrades, or bespoke interiors.

Refinance: Upgrade the boat you already love

Would you like to treat your current boat to a refit, invest in a new engine for improved performance, safety, and reliability, or fit air conditioning for our hot summers? We have simplified our refinance offer to help unlock capital for these and other upgrades, helping you invest in better long-term solutions for your boat’s future.

It’s a great way to make investments in your boat to upgrade performance, improve comfort, or ensure reliability and safety when you need to, not just when you have the funds available.

Crick Boat Show 2025 Round Up

Crick 2025 was as brilliant as ever, with stunning boats on display, and fantastic entertainment enjoyed in great company. ABBA tribute band ‘Revival’ brought the ‘disco fever’ to the crowds on Saturday night with some great outfits on display, including Liza’s funky trousers!

On Sunday, Stuart teamed up with Paul from Lockgate Stoves in the Kings Lock Chandlery Cup kayak race, taking line honours in the final, but coming in runners-up after a technical disqualification.

Later on, Dan Budd performing as Robbie Williams proved to be a fantastic showman, and was even compared favourably to the real thing by our own Take That and Robbie mega-fan, Kathryn Price.

We had an amazing time catching up with customers and trade friends. Thank you for the warm hospitality – we always love being part of the Crick buzz!

This year saw some interesting developments in the world of inland waterways boating. Electric propulsion (inc hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cells) looks to be growing in popularity, and lots of people were talking about Water Freedom’s on-demand water filtration, and the Cinderella incinerating toilets

A definite first for us was seeing Adrift Boats HDPE narrowboat, and we will be watching with interest to see how this develops within such a traditional marketplace.

A key focus for us is letting buyers know that finance is available for those looking to start a new life on the inland waterways, as many still aren’t aware, and Crick provides us with the perfect opportunity to do just that.

This year, we had QR code displays on a wide number of boats and stands, and handed out the Haven Knox Johnston, ‘Guide to buying a narrowboat’ featuring our advice on finance. Both proved very popular and really helped to get the message out there that finance is available for inland waterways, including for liveaboard use.

Favourite Boat in Show is always hotly contested, and this year the competition was very strong. In the end, the fantastic Gothic ‘Vampirate’ from Norton Canes took top place, but runner-up ‘Daisy’ from Braidbar Boats was also very popular, with lots of visitors to our stand saying she was their dream narrowboat and perfect in every way!

Third place was well deserved by Ovation Boats with ‘Breaking Bad’, a high spec build with lots of clever features.

Inland waterways lending remains in demand, including in the liveaboard sector, with an increasing number of buyers exploring finance to stretch up to the next level, rather than settle for a boat that isn’t quite right for them.

We also saw growing interest from new boat buyers seeking finance for both full build stage payments and smaller top-ups for upgrades.

Many boats docked at Crick Boat show 2025

As always, we want to thank every single person who came to visit us at our stand – we love attending shows like this as it gives us a rare opportunity to meet as many of you as possible face to face, and share our passion for boating with like-minded people.

If you did speak to us at our stand, and are keen to get started, make sure to contact us today.

Promarine Finance sets sail for growth following £30m facility from Secure Trust Bank Commercial Finance

We are excited to announce that we have secured a new £30m revolving facility from Secure Trust Bank Commercial Finance (STB CF).

Our new partnership increases our flexibility, allowing us to help more customers finance their dream, and facilitate higher value lending, while maintaining our rapid decision turnaround. Our lending criteria remain the same, with liveaboard lending (including narrowboats) and boats lying in the EU being financeable via us, and all decisions are still made in-house. With more capacity, improved rates, and upcoming digital upgrades, we’re in an even stronger position to support dealers, brokers, and buyers.

Read on for the official press release:

Promarine Finance Ltd (Promarine), a specialist in marine mortgages, has secured a £30m revolving facility from Secure Trust Bank Commercial Finance (STB CF) to support its continued growth.

Founded in 2010 by Stuart Austin, Promarine is an FCA regulated provider of marine mortgages, facilitating the purchase of new and used leisure vessels. Since then, Promarine has developed a strong reputation for building long-term relationships with its customers and industry partners, providing highly flexible terms and market-leading service levels.

The business provides marine mortgages for all types of leisure vessels, including RIBs, motorboats, sailing yachts, and canal boats. Having boat owners on the team has helped it understand the needs of fellow boat owners and boat brokers, which has contributed to it delivering attractive and quick financing solutions.

Promarine recently secured a £30m tailored facility from STB CF. The business is operating in a dynamic environment, with economic developments and challenges affecting buyers and sellers. With a trusted finance partner, this new funding supports the continued expansion of the business, maintaining its culture and reputation as a market leader. It will also allow the business to offer improved terms to the market.

Stuart Austin, managing director at Promarine Finance, said: “When I first spoke with Debbie from STB, I said it was ‘too good to be true’, a statement that I have since repeated a lot of times. As an independent lender, it has been difficult to find a bank that understands our unique risks and is willing to support us, but the STB CF team has been supportive since our first conversation.

“The funding will provide us with the flexibility and sufficient headroom to continue expanding. We pride ourselves in our people who make a difference for our customers, and we have found STB to have the same values, making for a good fit.”

“This new facility secures our ability to continue lending and helping more customers obtain the boats they want taking advantage of our flexible approach and quick decisions.”

Debbie Partridge, regional sales director at Secure Trust Bank Commercial Finance, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Promarine Finance on this funding round. Working with the business, we have structured a tailored facility that will help them continue to scale their operations. Stuart and the team are making significant waves in the industry, and we’re excited to support them as they embark on further growth.”
